Community Conservancies: Protecting Land, Rights and Benefits
A conservancy on community land is not just a conservation or tourism project. It is a land decision that can affect access, grazing, settlement, income, governance and future control of the land. Before any agreement is signed, the community should confirm land status, legal authority, community consent, benefit sharing, investor obligations and dispute resolution. Conservation should protect the land without weakening the community’s rights over it.
